Student Resources

The campus bookstore is centrally located next to the campus' cafeteria. The campus store sells all necessary texts required for courses at the institution. It also carries school supplies and imprinted clothing. Call 502-6356.

Quality food service is offered Monday through Friday from 7:30 am -8pm. A variety of meal services are offered such as short order, sandwiches, daily specials and pastries. Call 502-6352

Quality child care services are offered at BTVI. We recognize that we cater to adults who may be parents of young children; therefore we provide child care serves as an encouragement for young parents to obtain a post-secondary education.

The centre is open Monday through Friday from 7:45 am-5:30 pm. Students interested in having their children attend must register with the centre. Registration is done on a “first come, first served” basis as space is limited. The centre accepts children ages 12 months through 4 years. Call 502-6375

BTVI provides computer lab access to students on campus. The computer and Internet lab is located in DD1 block. Its operating hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am-5:00 pm. During scheduled examination periods, the evening hours are extended.

The facility was developed to meet the needs of the students who may not have access to a home computer. It provides a location on campus where students are able to a have a quiet, comfortable environment to study and do Internet based research for their class work. Students are encouraged to invest in their own personal head phones, as this allows them to listen to their requested site while not disturbing other persons who are utilizing the facility.

Students are encouraged to use the facility as it supports all areas of instruction providing print and electronic resources, (books, journals, trade related magazines, computers/Internet ready). These resources are for the exclusive use of the student of BTVI.

Students wishing to bring in their own computer equipment may want to direct specific questions to the Information Technology Department. Flexible scheduling permits individuals and groups to use the facility as needed. All users must sign the daily log.

The Health Services Centre is opened to all BTVI students without charge. Located in the S block, the centre is staffed by a fully trained registered nurse who is the only school official authorized to give medication. The Health Services Centre provides initial care for minor illnesses and injuries, as well as diagnosis, referral, and follow-up care for more serious conditions. Also provided are care and counseling in health related issues.

A requirement of the institution and health centre is that all students, whether full-time or part-time, provide (common before whether and after time) documentation of their medical and immunization history by completing the health form provided by the Admissions Department.

All students are encouraged to visit the centre to obtain their Insurance ID Card. In the event of an on-campus emergency, the office will contact a family member and the ambulance (if necessary). The student will be billed directly for the ambulance services required. First aid kits are also available at various locations throughout the campus.

We strive to provide a safe environment on our campus. Security personnel are on campus to ensure your protection and the protection of the institution. Students are to respect their authority and follow their directives. Students who do not comply will be subject to disciplinary action, including suspension. Security is operational 24 hours, Monday through Friday, including weekends and holidays.

The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute provides students with free academic support services through our Student Success Learning Centre. As a supplement to classroom instruction and learning, the centre offers a variety of programmes and services to facilitate student success in basic Mathematics and English, Workforce Preparation and Study Skills.

In addition to the computer assisted instructions, the centre offers tutoring and peer coaching. It is an environment where the student, instructor and staff collaborate to assist with academic success.

So, whether you need a little extra help with course material or simply want to raise your GPA, drop by the The SSLC. Our goal is to help you be as successful as possible in your academic studies. The SSLC is open Monday through Thursday 9:00am-5:00pm and is located in the M-block.

Students who are experiencing academic difficulties in their Tech prep courses may request assistance. Students can receive help in a class setting from their instructor, in an arranged small group and/or on a one-to-one basis by appointment. Support and advice are provided to help students improve their academic performance and successfully complete their course to fulfill their career and personal goals.
